Play Whe marks questions
What is a mark in Play Whe?
A mark is one of the 36 numbers in Play Whe, each with a traditional name. Players say "14 played" or "Money played" for the same result.
What is a spirit mark and a partner mark?
In Play Whe tradition every mark has a spirit, a second mark it is closely linked to, and many also have a partner, a mark of the same family. Players often back a mark together with its spirit or partner. The pairs shown here are the ones on NLCB's own Play Whe poster.
Where do the mark names come from?
They come from Chinapoo, the chart of the old Chinese Whe-Whe game brought to Trinidad, which places the 36 marks on parts of a man's body. Over the years local names such as Corbeau, Crapaud and Jamette became part of it.
